How to Avoid Spyware
Spyware, the nefarious underworld Internet viruses, swoop down on unsuspecting Internet patrons, attaching to their systems and destroying hard drives and important files. Taking some easy steps will help you avoid these dreaded online plagues.
Pop-up ads are an annoyance. Behind some of them lie spyware bots and programs. Whatever you do, do not believe these pop-ups. Some of these little buggers will say your antivirus program is out of date. Do not believe them. Installing these will screw up your computer. If your real antivirus program has an update, it will flash or pop-up a message from the corner and look official unlike the amateur-style of the pop-ups.
Downloading spyware embedded in programs is another way known to install spyware on your computer. Watch out for wearz sites. Many of these sites are filled with virsues, spam and spyware. Using bittorrent to install programs can lead to severe spyware problems. Some less-than-reputable torrent sites found on google, and even respected sites like The Pirate Bay sometimes contain torrents for programs containing spyware. Be sure to read the comments before downloading any programs from these sites as members will say if they've had problems with the files.
Installing programs from reliable websites as these will not contain spyware. Download.com is a very reliable site as major Internet media company, CNET, runs the site.
The key to avoid spyware is thinking clearly. Do not rush into any downloading as it can lead to computer failure from spyware. Be sure to check out the Federal Trade Commission’s website for updated news on spyware.
